In less than two days, the people of Puerto Rico will go to the polls to cast their vote in one of the final three primaries. Many of our supporters have been hard at work, making calls to ensure that voters there have all the information they need heading into Sunday’s election. The response thus far has been tremendous. Here are just a few of the experiences and insights that people from around the country have shared with us.

Richard from Illinois…

I have called 1000 people in other states before today in WI, TX, OH, PA, NC, IN, WV, OR, KY. Until today I have never been able to decisively convert an undecided voter. Today I was three for five. The people in Puerto Rico are open minded. They seemed to like Barack and want to know more… They were so willing to listen and so open. I wish I did not have to work tomorrow. I would call all day. I will however, try to make another 100.

Nancy from Michigan…

The people I talked with are so polite. I have not had one rude comment or "hang up".  For or against, it has been a blessing to talk with the people. One fellow expressed his gratitude that we cared enough about him, his family and Puerto Rico to call.  He said ‘we are the same’.

Damaris from Illinois…

I’ve been having a blast! In Puerto Rico people are very friendly, and when I talked to them, and expressed that I’m Puerto Rican living in Chicago, they asked me about my family, my children.  This gentleman from Canovanas told me to call him to visit them when I go to Puerto Rico.  I also talked to a lady who’s 107 years old, and is going to vote for Obama! She calls him ‘Baracco’… it’s been a religious experience for me!!! I have laughed, and cried with them. I will make more calls tomorrow!

There are many other stories just like this coming in from all across the country. The team on the ground in Puerto Rico is hard at work, but they can’t do it alone.

Every call you make today will seriously bolster their efforts, and get Senator Obama that much closer to securing the nomination. We are a mere 41 delegates away, so maximizing our share of Puerto Rico’s 55 delegates is essential. If you are a fluent Spanish speaker, please take the reins and make the call.

(Please note that some phone companies consider Puerto Rico an International Call and some do not, so you might want to check on the details on your own personal service plan before making calls.)

Before you start, you should take a moment to view Barack’s positions on many of the issues facing Puerto Ricans, and then log on to our online phonebanking tool and start making calls. The calls will run until 9pm EST tonight, and resume at 9am EST tomorrow.
