Fuel For The Fire
Tuesday marked the "end of the beginning" as we reached the delegate number that we spent the past 17 months working tirelessly for. And as always, the joy and excitement of our supporters fuels us on for another hard fight.
During Barack’s speech at St. Paul, Ron wrote into our website:
I watch with my heart full of hope on the day that Barack Obama announced his intentions to run and in that moment I knew that at some point, some day, tonight’s speech would be forthcoming. Tears stream of joy stream down my face tonight as we reach this historic milestone together.
Words can’t explain how connected I feel not only to this man who will be our next president but to all of those throughout this great nation of ours who pulled together to make what was considered an improbable candidacy a dream realized for America today and for far into the future.
I’ve waited decades for a candidate that I felt strongly enough about to ring hundreds of phones, knock on hundreds of doors and to travel to Iowa in the dead of winter for. He is the one! Our time has come. We are the ones we have been hoping for. Now is the time to come together and move this country forward into the 21st century.
Ron, like many of us, got hooked on Obama when Barack spoke at the 2004 Democratic National Convention in Boston. Since then, this Colorado resident has followed Barack and could not wait to get involved when Barack announced his run for the Presidency last February.
He got involved in Adams County through phone banking during critical times. He helped the grassroots effort by recruiting volunteers to help the campaign.
Ron’s favorite parts about the primary, besides winning the nomination, were his trip to Iowa, meeting Barack in Denver and the feeling he got when he learned we won the Iowa Caucus. Among those events, there was a shift in how people were responding to the campaign that he loved.
The voices early on were tinged with some doubt; ‘do you really think he can make it?’ then they turned to voices firm with certainty and hope; ‘he can win this thing!’
While working hard to win the General Election this November, Ron is look forward to bringing new leadership and change to America. He is excited to spread Barack’s message of leaving behind the divisive ways of Washington and getting more people involved in taking action to bring change to their communities and our nation.
My greatest hope is that the American people, having seen the effects that working together on a grassroots level on a national campaign, will realize the power they have to bring positive change to their communities. I have seen the roots of this taking hold already among people who had never gotten involved in politics before, people who thought that they couldn’t really make a difference.
The dedication to this campaign and tireless efforts of supporters like Ron have gotten us this far, but we have a tough fight ahead. If you donate now, your contribution will be matched by a first time donor who is just now coming on board to help us with the task ahead.
