Strange set top box control problem suddenly appeared
After working fine for years, as of today the set top box control works fine if I enter channel numbers directly, or when tivo enters them when starting recordings, but if I use channel up/down or select from the guide it misses off all but the last digit.
More info:
Been using an rf2link adapter without a hitch for a few years.
A couple of weeks ago my digibox broke down. A sky engineer came and replaced the box (new one is a Thomson DV3). Everything continued to work fine for the last couple of weeks, including channel changing, didn’t even have to change IR codes.
This morning I came down to find my digibox turned off. Ok maybe a power surge. Turned it on and found the problem listed above had started happening:
When I enter the channel numbers directly on the tivo remote all works fine and the correct codes sent to the digibox.
When tivo starts off a recording, again, it sets the channel correctly on the digibox.
However, when I use channel up or down, or select a programme/channel from the tivo interface, it sends only the last digit.
I tried a few different IR codes in the tivo set top box set. Every code that *works* does the same thing with a slight variation. It sends only the last 2 digits (as opposed to just the last 1 in normal use).
I telnetted into my tivo hoping to find some clue and found my /var/hack directory had disappeared (I upgraded my tivo a few years ago using a pre-installed drive from Tivoland). Ok no problem. I just reinstalled the files again (still had a zip of them from the last time they disappeared).
This hasn’t made any difference to the problem listed above.
Does anybody have any idea of what might be going on here? If no codes were being sent I’d know where to start but the fact that they’re being sent fine under some conditions and not under others has got me stumped.
