So, when I left DTV last year I replaced the two main TVs with THDs and our older bedroom set with an S2. Our FiOS signal here in DC metro carried both analog and digital, so had two tuners in the bedroom (which was an upgrade to previous one-tuner capability as we have only single coax run to the room).

DC FiOS is now moving to all digital, and VZ is providing free converter equipment. I asked for two converters, one for office/PC which was using analog in Media Center, the second for our kitchen. I was told, however, that these converters will allow us to receive not only the limited locals, but all subscribed channels — just no "two way" stuff like VOD, widgets etc.

I don’t use any of those services, any reason why I couldn’t just ditch my $4.99 basic set-top box feeding the S2 and use one of these converters instead? With the switch, I’m going to be single tuner regardless on the S2.
