After spending far too much time hacking apart nearly a dozen inkjet and laser printers, including a 4 foot plotter, all I have to show for my effort is a small pile of small DC motors and an even smaller pile of tiny stepper motors. I wanted big honking stepper motors that I could use for my CNC project. I was hoping that my workspace would be able to handle 2ftX2ft, if not 2 X 4 but the motors I am pulling out are not appropriate. What and where should I be looking for bigger stepper motors? At this point I am willing to just buy them surplus, but even then I am having trouble. I wanted to use 5/16" rod as my lead screws since I don’t think I can afford acme lead screws. and the carriages might end up weighing in the 10lb range, not counting the tool. Can anyone help me find big stepper motors?
