I have a very bright young lad who wants a soldering iron to work with. The problem is that for all his smarts, he’s not particularly focused. I’m realistically afraid that he’ll forget to turn it off and start a fire.

We got him a Cold Heat, but it didn’t last very long. Those tips are fragile and wear out quickly with the kind of work he’s doing (right now, it’s taking apart boards to accumulate parts).

Does someone have a suggestion for an iron with some sort of time-out setting — if not used it turns itself off after a time — or some other safety measure?
